It’s the inner values that count!

Tracoe Twist & Twist Plus

A patient with a tracheostomy should have available the largest possible lumen for breathing and ventilation, taking into account the individual circumstances. In order to consider the patient's anatomy and the effects of the tracheostomy tube on the work of breathing, the "inner value" of the cannula is what counts.

Tracoe Twist Plus Extract: Detailed Features & Usage of the Multifunctional Tracheostomy Tube

Reduced lumen of the tube

Inserting an inner cannula into the outer cannula of a tracheostomy tube, in some cases the lumen, available to the patient for breathing and ventilation, will be reduced.

But for the patient, every millimeter counts. If the inner diameter of the inner cannula is reduced from 8 to 7 mm, the air supply is reduced by 41% and the effort required to breathe increases. A change from 8 to 9 mm improves the value by 60%, while the effort required to breathe remains the same.*

Tracoe Twist Plus Tracheostomy Tube: Importance of Diameter Ratio for Airflow

Good inside-outside diameter ratio

The sizing of the Tracoe Twist and Twist Plus tubes always corresponds to the inner diameter of the inner cannula. For example, when it says 08 on the neck flange, the lumen of the inner cannula is 8 mm.

The thin tube walls of inner and outer cannulas allow for a good inside-outside diameter ratio.

Optimized extraction

Due to the material and the thin tube walls of the Tracoe Twist and Twist Plus tracheostomy tubes, the subglottic suction line cannot be embedded. This is why we have developed this modern, flat and stable suction channel.

Accumulated secretions in the subglottic space can be suctioned off at the lowest point possible, above the low-pressure cuff. This reduces the risk of bacterially contaminated secretions passing into the lower respiratory tract.

In the Tracoe Twist and Twist Plus Extract tubes, the opening of the subglottic suction channel is at the lowest point possible above the low-pressure cuff. The innovative, flat and stable suction channel provides a significantly improved suction performance.

The larger flow cross-section and the lower suction point enable efficient suctioning. Compared with the predecessor model, secretion is suctioned off more rapidly and more thoroughly.

All Tracoe Extract tubes are approved for ACV - Above Cuff Vocalization. It is indicated for patients wearing a cuffed tracheostomy tube with subglottic suction line who do not tolerate cuff deflation. ACV is used in order to improve the patient’s quality of life and has to be adjusted to the individual patient’s needs and abilities.

Features of the Inner and Outer Cannulas

Green and White mean non-fenestrated

  • Green lettering on the neck flange indicates a non-fenestrated outer cannula.
  • Non-fenestrated Tracoe Twist inner cannulas are identified by white 15 mm connectors.
  • Non-fenestrated Tracoe Twist Plus inner cannulas are identified by a white locking ring.

Blue means fenestrated

  • Blue lettering on the neck flange indicates a fenestrated outer cannula.
  • Fenestrated Tracoe Twist inner cannulas are identified by blue 15 mm connectors.
  • Fenestrated Tracoe Twist Plus inner cannulas are identified by a blue locking ring.
Double fenestration

Special features Twist Plus

In addition to the fenestration on the outer bend Twist Plus tubes are as well featured with two phonation holes on the inner bend to offer additional space for the expired air to pass through the tracheostomy tube to be directed to the upper airways.

Tracoe Twist & Twist Plus

The Tracoe Twist and Twist Plus tracheostomy tubes are used as ventilation and therapy tubes with inner cannulas in hospitals, rehabilitation, and community settings. Another special feature is the curved neck flange that moves in both the vertical and horizontal axes, following the movements of the patient’s head.

Tracoe Twist & Twist Plus Tracheostomy Tubes: The Double-Swivel Neck Flange

The Twist and Twist Plus tubes are available in six types including subglottic suction and multifunctional.

Tracoe Twist and Twist Plus tracheostomy tubes are made of polyurethane (PU). The high-volume low-pressure cuff is made of medical grade PVC. All materials are DEHP-free.
