Total Laryngectomy: Oxygenation and Emergency Care
03/10/2026
Total Laryngectomy: Emergency Care and Oxygenation Strategies
Patients with a total laryngectomy present unique challenges in emergency and respiratory care, particularly in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and oxygen delivery. Mismanagement due to unfamiliarity with altered airway anatomy or lack of preparedness can lead to delays and complications.
This webinar provides practical guidance on oxygenation strategies in the laryngectomized population, including how to prescribe, titrate, and deliver oxygenation effectively. We will explore equipment requirements, considerations for patients with varying respiratory conditions, and innovative solutions for supplemental oxygen delivery such as the Provox Life Oxygen.
In addition, participants will gain insight in recognizing and managing emergencies in laryngectomized patients, including emergency care pathways for critical situations led by an experienced respiratory physiotherapist. A live Q&A will follow, offering participants the opportunity to clarify clinical scenarios and discuss best practices.
Time
March 10, 2026, at 19:00-20:15 Central European Time (CET)
Learning objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the unique airway considerations in patients with a total laryngectomy during emergency and respiratory care.
- Apply evidence-based strategies for oxygen prescription and delivery in acute settings, including understanding equipment needs and titration principles.
- Explain the rationale for different oxygen saturation targets in patients with varying respiratory conditions (e.g., COPD vs. non-COPD).
- Describe innovative solutions for supplemental oxygen delivery, including the Provox Life Oxygen system.
- Outline the emergency care pathway for laryngectomized patients and implement practical steps for responding to critical situations.
