Tracheoesophageal speech by means of a voice prosthesis is the most common method of voice rehabilitation after total laryngectomy and carries the highest success rates. Complications can often be prevented or managed successfully with timely and proper attention. This webinar provides an overview of complex case reports associated to voice-prosthesis- and puncture-related adverse events. Also the management of hyper- and hypotonicity to achieve optimal voice outcomes and voice-related quality of life will be discussed.

Barış Karakullukçu, MD, PhD is an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon in The Netherlands Cancer Institute. Following residency at Istanbul University, he has completed fellowships in head and neck surgery and microvascular surgery at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He has been working in The Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2008. His clinical and research interests are endoscopic oncologic surgery of the paranasal sinuses, microvascular reconstruction, image guided surgery of maxilla and mandible and photodynamic therapy.
Anne Kornman, MSc, is Speech Language Pathologist in the Netherlands Cancer Institute. She studied at the Utrecht College for Logopedics and graduated in 1997. In 2017 she obtained a master degree in Clinical Health Sciences, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Utrecht University at UMC Utrecht. She formerly worked at the University Medical Center of Utrecht and is appointed at our department of Head and Neck Oncology and Surgery since April 2008. Besides the care for our laryngectomized patients, she is also involved in the voice, speech and swallowing rehabilitation of patients with other head and neck malignancies in our department.
