Provox Micron HME
The Provox® Micron HME™ is a specialized stoma cover that acts as a heat and moisture exchanger (HME) for laryngectomized patients. The integral filter helps to filter small airborne particles that pass through the device.
This document summarizes the tests performed by Nelson Laboratories, USA.
Test Summary
Provox voice prosthesis
In 1990 the first Provox® voice prosthesis was introduced on the market. The Provox® voice prosthesis is bi-flanged and made of medical grade silicone rubber. The prostheses are used worldwide, which is demonstrated by many publications in different languages. This literature review summarizes the published material about Provox voice protheses and focuses on publications that describe its performance in terms of success rate, complications, device life time and voice and speech.

Provox HME System
After a total laryngectomy the patient breathes in and out through the tracheostoma in the neck. Therefore the nasal functions of warming, humidifying and filtering the inhaled air are lost, as well as the upper airway resistance. An HME has three physical properties: 1) Heat and moisture exchange capacity; 2) Resistance and 3) Filtering particles. This literature review concerns the Provox HME System and related accessories manufactured by Atos Medical.
