Life as a laryngectomee, Mr van Leeuwen
This video presents Mr van Leeuwen (the Netherlands) talking about his life after a total laryngectomy. Mr van Leeuwen is laryngectomized which means that he has undergone surgery where his entire larynx (including vocal cords) was removed. After a total laryngectomy, you breathe through a hole in the neck - a tracheostoma.
Being laryngectomized means adapting to a new situation. But after a while you will find that many things can be just as before: talking, traveling, eating, being physically active, and doing the things you like the most.
